The Chief Imam of Borno, Ibrahim Ahmad, has died at the age of 90 years.
His death was made known in a statement, in Maiduguri, on Thursday, by Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser on Communication to the state governor, Kashim Shettima.

Mr. Gusau said Mr. Ahmad died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Cairo, Egypt, after a protracted illness. He said that the governor was saddened by the death of the Chief Imam.
“Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno, on behalf of the state government and his family, joins citizens of Borno to mourn the death of the state’s Chief Imam, Ibrahim Ahmad, who died after a protracted illness at the age of 90 years. Shettima described the late Chief Imam as one of the very strong pillars of Borno. He will be greatly missed because the death came at a time when the state is facing challenges that require the prayers and leadership guidance of great men like him,” Mr. Gusau said.
The special adviser also quoted Mr. Shettima as describing the death as a huge loss not only to Borno, but to the entire Northern Nigeria and the nation at large.
