Photos: Cameroonian troops hand over suspected Boko Haram terrorists to the Nigerian Army, hostages rescued

This is a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman:
"The cooperation with our neighbours have brought renewed vigour and is yielding fruitful result in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.
For instance, apart from recording tremendous success, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade, have married up with Cameroonian forces for joint operations in Kirawa junction.
Although they have not met any of the terrorists in the axis of advance, they rescued 8 men, 36 women and 68 children in the area.

To further consolidate on the cordial relationship, the Commander of Cameroonian 1st Battalion, paid courtesy call on his counterpart, the Commanding Officer of 121 Task Force Battalion in Pulka. The visiting unit assisted with the demining of a section of the road between Kirawa Junction to Pulka and handed over 2 suspected Boko Haram terrorists to the Nigerian unit.
Sadly however, one of the visiting unit’s vehicle ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), buried along Pulka-Ngoshe road in which an officer and 8 of their soldiers sustained injuries.

Unfortunately, the officer died while being evacuated to Douala by air.
We wish to commiserate with the Cameroonian forces for the incident and the demise of the officer.

May his soul rest in peace and give his colleagues speedy recovery.
Similarly, troops of 113 Battalion on patrol to Ngwala cleared Boko Haram terrorists’ camps at Ngorta and Aritimie villages. The troops also came across the terrorists market at the area. However, on sighting the troops the suspected Boko Haram terrorists ran and abandoned their supplies.
The patrol also conducted cordon and search operations around Ngwala and recovered 2 pick up vehicles and 12 motorcycles belonging to the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists. The market has been closed indefinitely.
It is pertinent to report that troops morale in the theatre of operation is very high and they are ever determined to clear remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever they may be in the North Eastern part of our country.
Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation."
Nigerian man on the run after stabbing a Ugandan woman in India

Nigerian man on the run after stabbing a Ugandan woman in India

Hennur police have launched a manhunt for a Nigerian man, identified only as Osas, for allegedly attacking 30-year-old Ugandan national Shakira Nsonko on February 10, in Bengalulu, India.
Osas, it is alleged, attacked her with a knife at an African eatery when she refused to pay for his drink. Hennur police have taken up the case under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 324 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon) against Osas, a resident of Kukkenahalli.

In her complaint, Shakira has stated that she was at the mess with a friend, Gifletin, when Osas asked her to buy him drinks. When she refused, he abused and slapped her, she has complained. To escape his continued assault, she locked herself in a room and called a friend, Tony. That did not deter Osas, who waited and slashed her with a knife when she ventured out of the room.

Passports and other documents of the two are being verified by the police. Consul of Rwanda, Mohan Suresh, who visited Shakira Nsonko, told Bangalore Mirror that he wanted to ascertain if she was from Rwanda. He said the two knew each other, and that she was an illegal immigrant from Uganda.

Meanwhile, DCP Satish Kumar informed media that Shakira initially claimed she was involved in an accident in which she got hurt. It was only after doctors at MS Ramaiah Hospital informed the police that the wound could be the result of stabbing that she revealed the stabbing.

Stop using sports facilities for weddings, thanksgivings, carnivals, etc - Sports Minister tells Governors

Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has advised state governors to stop the use of sport facilities in their state for events such as weddings, carnivals, political campaign, thanksgivings and others. Dalung said this while inspecting facilities at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross Rivers over the weekend.

"The turf of the football pitch here appears to be in bad shape and there is evidence that it was in good shape before but along the line, something happened. So, I suggest that football pitches across the country be exclusively used for those things that they are meant for and not to be subjected to other events that could destroy the turf. Invariably, what I am suggesting is that, state governments should not subject sports facilities to other events such as marriage, wedding, Carnival, cultural events and so on”he said

Photo: Lady narrates how robbers stole her ATM and emptied her account

A primary school teacher identified as Evi Iwaha pictured above, has narrated how some robbers attacked her, took her ATM card and cleared her account in the early hours of Saturday January 30th.
She narrated her story to The Nation. "It happened a few minutes to 6.00am; I’d boarded a bus supposedly to Oshodi from Obanikoro. No sooner had the bus moved than they sprang into action. The first thing they did was grab my phone; ‘What do you do? Where are you coming from?’one of them asked. I was hopeful that they’d take pity on me, having told them I was just a primary school teacher. Why bother to ask if it meant nothing to them? After rummaging through my wallet, they found two ATM cards and some cash. The question that followed hit me with a bang. ‘What’s your pin number?’ Instinctively, I hesitated for a while, but a resounding slap on my face soon got me spilling it out. These guys were actually going to do the unimaginable. They were going to clear my account. To think that I was about experiencing stories that had seemed far away. I looked up in time to see another member of the gang, sitting in the front seat. They called him officer. I don’t know if he was some military officer or if the name was just a code name. Even though I was still a little dazed from the slap, I couldn’t but notice the gun that hung loosely in the man’s hand, as he spoke to his colleague. He quickly handed the ATM cards to another member who played the role of a bus conductor. The driver slowed down at my inquisitor’s command, and the bus conductor jumped off the bus on his way to emptying my accounts. I silently wished I had payed the money into my friend’s account, he had asked me to do so to avoid spending it, since I’m saving towards paying my rent. Meanwhile, while we awaited the arrival of the messenger, the bus kept going round and round. In the process, the two women I met on the bus were told to disembark, and two others, a guy and his girlfriend were picked up at the next stop. They were lucky, as they didn’t have any ATM card on them. They were ripped of their phones and the only one thousand Naira note the guy had on him. They had also searched the lady who came on at the same time as I did. Obviously they didn’t get much from her. I was their sacrificial lamb. Soon my phone beeped – an indication that the money had been withdrawn. Then they drove back to the spot where they had dropped off the bus conductor, picked him up and drove off. By all means, it was a smooth operation, and we were home-bound now. I silently prayed that they dropped me off at a safe place. All along, I didn’t know where we were because I had been sitting on the floor of the bus. Suddenly, the bus pulled to a stop and we were all told to alight. I discovered that they had dropped us at the toll-gate. My inquisitor who had promised to give me transport money to take me home had either forgotten or couldn’t care less. They zoomed off as soon as we were all out of the bus. I stood there thinking of how to get to my place in Gbagada, until one good Nigerian who happened to be passing by came to my rescue by giving me N100, my exact fare home.”she said
