Arising from poor sales of his weekly newspaper and magazine, a publisher identified as Solomon (surname withheld), on Friday, allegedly committed suicide in Asaba, Delta State.

It was reliably gathered that the publisher, who resided in Achalla Layout area of Asaba, took his life in anguish following the advent of poor sales in his newspaper business.

The ongoing probe of former Pres Jonathan's administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to find out the  dealings behind the alleged purchase of 3 mobile stages, that cost $6.9m, Presidency source has said.
According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The fund was said to have been withdrawn from one of the numerous accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, for the purpose of buying 3 pieces of 40-feet mobile stages for use by Jonathan during mass public speaking events.

A road accident in Swaziland has killed 38 girls and seriously injured 20 others who were on their way to a traditional ceremony where King Mswati III can choose a new wife, pro-democracy activists reported.
The accident happened on Friday night when their open truck smashed into a car on the road between the tiny kingdom's two main cities, Mbabane and Manzini, en route to the traditional Reed Dance.

"A total of 38 young girls have been pronounced dead, with more than 20 others seriously injured," Swaziland Solidarity Network spokesman Lucky Lukhele said.

The Swaziland Solidarity Network campaigns for democracy in the landlocked kingdom within South Africa.
"The girls were in an open truck which hit a sedan car stopped on the road," Mr Lukhele said.
The Reed Dance, due to be held on Monday, is a beauty pageant that attracts tens of thousands of young virgins who dance before the polygamist king, who can select one of them as a new wife.
Mswati, Africa's last absolute monarch, chose his 14th wife at the celebration in 2013.
King Mswati said the girls' deaths were a "tragedy in the nation".

Cult Groups, Fulani Herdsmen Kill 761 In Seven Months

No fewer than 761 persons have lost their lives to cultism and clashes involving Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria between January and July this year, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

Findings by Saturday PUNCH, which was based on reported cases of violence involving cultism and Fulani herdsmen in the media, revealed the information.

The analysis showed that out of the figure, violence involving the Fulani nomads claimed 621 lives across the country within the period, while that of cult clashes claimed the remaining 140 victims.

It should, however, be noted that some killings were unreported and the attacks also left several persons injured, some of whom could have lost their lives later.

The final burial rites of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, was performed on Friday, but his wives, children and family members were unable to pay their last respects as they were barred from the programme.

Some other people who had expected to see the body of the monarch lie in state were also disappointed as his remains were neither brought out for people to see nor was any casket displayed during the burial service.

Black Box Of Crashed Bristow Helicopter Found

The Accident Investigation Bureau on Friday announced that it had recovered the Black Box of the Bristow helicopter that crashed into the Lagos lagoon on Wednesday.

The black box contains the cockpit voice and the flight data recorders.

The Commissioner of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Felix Abali, made this known while displaying the two devices to aviation correspondents at the bureau’s headquarters in Lagos.

Six of the 12 people on the helicopter died when the crash occurred on Wednesday. Among the dead were the pilot and the co-pilot whose bodies were found on Thursday.

The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained.

WAEC releases withheld results of 13 states

West African Examination Council, (WAEC) has released withheld results of  candidates who sat for this year’s May/June West African Secondary Certificate Examination, (Wa$$CE).

The results were withheld by the examination body due to debts owed by 13 state governments.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja on the recent development, Head of the Nigeria National office of WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu said as at press time that the result will be uploaded on WAEC’s website in the next 24 hours.

Eguridu explained that the decision to release the results was due to appeals from stakeholders, including parents, the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), notable Nigerians.

At the meeting was the Executive Director of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Alh. Abdulaziz Yari who according to Eguridu has indicated that the forum will positively resolve the matter as soon as possible.

The Ife Traditional Council has formally announced the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

The chiefs, accompanied by Prince Tokunbo Sijuwade, officially announced the demise of the monarch while meeting with Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the Government House in Osogbo on Wednesday.

One of the chiefs, Oba Solomon Omisakin, told the governor that the Ooni had joined his ancestors.

The monarch, who was flown out in an air ambulance, died on July 28, in a London hospital.

An Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, on Tuesday dissolved a 25-year-old marriage, between one Olufade Adekoya and his wife, Olusola, over lateness in preparing meals.

President of the court, Mr Olu Adebiyi, who dissolved the marriage, said there was “no longer any love in the marriage.’’

Adebiyi said that the court had tried several times to reconcile their indifferences but all efforts proved abortive.

“Therefore, you have ceased to be husband and wife, henceforth.
“I put an end to the union between both of you from today in the interest of peace,” he said.

Over 50 Killed In Borno Bomb Blast

MAIDUGURI, (Reuters) – A bomb attack on a packed market in northeastern Nigeria bearing the hallmarks of Boko Haram killed around 50 people on Tuesday, sources said.
The explosion struck at around 1:30 p.m. (1230 GMT) in the town of Sabon Gari in Borno state, which is the heartland of the Islamist militant group.
“So far, 52 people are injured, 47 dead persons have been removed from the market,” Umar Kidda, a member of a civilian viligante group, told Reuters by phone.
Kidda, who witnessed bodies being taken away, said the market was busy when the explosion occurred.
A military source who declined to be named said around 50 people had been killed.
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people during a six-year armed campaign to set up an Islamic state in northeastern Nigeria.
According to a Reuters tally, more than 600 people have been killed in raids and bombings by the insurgents since President Muhammadu Buhari took office on May 29, promising to crush the group.
At the start of the year Boko Haram controlled territory about the size of Belgium.
The army said it pushed the group from most of that area in the last few months with the help of troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon, but there has been a recent resurgence in militant attacks.
No one claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s blast.

The Ife Council of Chiefs had yesterday warned all residents in Ile Ife to remain indoors tomorrow between 9am and 5pm.

The West African School Certificate, WAEC, has just released the result of the May/June 2015 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, withholding 118,101 candidates’ results out of the 1.5 million students that participated in the examination.

Announcing this in Lagos at a press conference on Monday, WAEC Head of National Office, Mr. Charles Eguridu noted that the states owing WAEC were now 13, saying the candidates in public schools in the 13 states would not have their results until their state governments pay their candidates’ registration fees.

LAGOS—A woman has reportedly abandoned her baby in a day-care centre located at Isawo road, Oke-Afa, Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos, for over three months.
It was learned that the woman, identified as Soloja Ayobola, came to God’s Care Nanny on January 18 with her seven-month-old baby to make enquiries about how the centre operates.

Thereafter, she was said to have been given a form which she filled and promised to bring her passport in her next visit, but never did.

Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Rise To $31.5 Billion

Nigeria’s foreign reserves rose 0.2 per cent month-to-date to $31.5 billion as at last week, representing a $200 million increase from the July record, which was put at $31.3 billion.

The increase was expected given the increased efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reduce speculative attacks on the local unit, according to Ayodeji Eboh, the Head of Afrinvest Securities Limited.

“CBN continues to dismiss calls to devalue the naira. We expect that the pressure in the parallel market may soften as the foreign exchange market remains closely watched by the apex bank,” he said.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal factory within the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, loaded with various expired food condiments worth millions of naira.

It arrested a 24–year-old, Mr. Victor Ebuka Okeke, in connection with the expired products.

The factory, which was originally a one- shop, was said to have been used to stock, re-validate and distribute expired products. Some of the expired products discovered in the factory include expired Maggi Sauce with manufacturing dates: 15/08/2011 and expiry dates: 15/08/2014, Amoy Dark Soy Sauce, Costa Corned Beef and Exeter Corned beef, among others.

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has directed all banks with accounts of the state government to close them.
According to El-Rufai, the decision to close the accounts was to give way for implementation of the Treasury Single Account, TSA, framework by 1 September, 2015.
 

The governor who further explained that the decision was part of the process of attaining this goal, said all banks that maintain the accounts of the government have not only been put on notice to close them, but have also been asked to remit the balances to the Central Bank of Nigeria which will host the state’s TSA.

A 34-year-old pregnant woman identified as Ikhuenbor Joy has been arraigned before an Egor Magistrate Court for beating another pregnant woman, Gift Nkechi, to coma.

The beating occurred at No 3 Ikhuenbor lane off Odion Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor local government.

Joy, who is about eight-month pregnant, was accused of biting Nkechi and beating her with her fists.

LEADERSHIP gathered that a caesarian session was performed on Nkechi to remove her baby.

Joy was arraigned on two-count charge of assault and causing bodily harm.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A lawyer and rights activist, Kabir Akingbolu, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos against President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to make adequate provision for the production and supply of petroleum products to all citizens at a regulated price.

Akingbolu, in the fresh suit, which is yet to be assigned to a judge for hearing,stressed that considering the nature and extent of inconveniences which the citizens of the country were being subjected to by lack of petroleum products, the failure of Buhari, as the Chief Executive Officer of the country, to act by making the products sufficiently available, was capable of causing breach of peace and serious discomfort for the citizenry.

Islamic Cleric Arrested Over 3-day Marathon Sex For Deliverance

A 42-year-old self-professed Islamic cleric, known locally as Alfa, has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court for engaging a 34 year-old woman in sex deliverance that lasted for three days in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The Oyo State-born cleric, Jamiu Mukaila, reportedly defrauded Bose Alele to the tune of N350,000 after which he engaged her in a three-day marathon sex under the false pretence of casting evil spirit out of her.

The incident happened at Ire-Akari Road in Isolo, a suburb of Lagos, where the victim resides and where the prayer took place.

One of it was at the weekend found in the wardrobe of a final year student of Micro Biology department as she was about to UnCloth.
 

Reports said that the student, Miss Adesuwa Erebor, had wanted to select clothes to wear to class when suddenly she saw something shiny like a millipede, but on closer look she realized it was a brown snake.

The Nigerian military announced on Sunday that it has arrested a Boko Haram commander.

The army said the culprit was arrested in an operation by troops of 7 division along Aulari in Bama axis of Borno State. The insurgent leader, the military said, is currently undergoing investigation.

The “offensive operation” that led to the capture of the terrorist was done in collaboration with troops of 21 Brigade and elements of 151 Task Force Battalion of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, spokesperson of the division, Tukur Gusau, said in a statement.
