According to his quaters, Zuma’s trip will be a ”working visit” and besides Buhari’s inaugurations, it will also give the two presidents the opportunity to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Court bars NDLEA, Police, SSS, others from arresting & extraditing Kashamu

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has barred men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigerian Police Force, SSS and other security agencies from arresting and extraditing embattled Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu to the US over alleged drug related offences.

While presiding over a case brought before him by the legal team of Senator Kashamu this morning, Justice Okon Abang described as illegal, the attempted arrest and extradition of Kashamu in relation to drug-trafficking allegations which he had been previously exonerated by two British courts. Justice Abang ordered the NDLEA, Attorney General of the Federation, National Adviser to President on Security and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to pay Buruji Kashamu N20,000.

Supreme Court affirms Rauf Aregbesola as Osun state governor

The Supreme Court today affirmed the August 9th 2014 election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state. The state PDP Governorship candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore had approached the apex court to vacate the previous ruling of the Court of Appeal and the Osun state Election Tribunal that had upheld the election of Aregbesola. Omisore asked the court to declare him winner of the election, accusing Mr Aregbesola and his party, APC of engaging in electoral malpractice during the election.

A seven man panel of judges in the Supreme court led by Justice John Fabiyi, ruled that Aregbesola was dully elected and is not found guilty of any election malpractice.

A group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative,has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, from swearing the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari in.
The suit is also seeking an order to nullify the certificate of return issued to Buhari by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Governor Aliyu asks FG to remove fuel subsidy because it breeds corruption

Niger State governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, while commissioning a N620 million 3-star hotel developed by the Niger State Development Company Limited, NSDC, and the State Sure-P asked the Federal Government to deregulate the oil sector by removing subsidy on petroleum products.

He added that the removal of  the subsidy would reduce the black market system, thus allowing free and regular flow of petroleum products to all parts of the country.

He argued that the subsidy on petroleum product is currently being enjoyed by only a select few who have the necessary connections to the importers.

President Jonathan will leave the villa on Friday Morning for his hometown Otuoke, Bayelsa state.

One Ajayi Olatunbosun has been arrested by the police for allegedly hiring thugs to pour acid on his ex-wife, Bamidele Otakiti, in her shop on Adejobi Street in the Ajasa Command area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro gathered that all had been well between the couple since they moved to Lagos in 2005 until a few months ago when a disagreement soured their relationship.

The quarrel was said to have led to their separation in February, 2015.

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 38-year-old civil servant, Cyril Agochi, of Federal Government College, Keffi, before a Mararaba Upper Area Court for stealing phone.

Agochi is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal force and theft.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Stephen Kwaza, told the court that Doris Agochi of State House Quarters Mararaba, reported the matter at the Sani Abacha Road Police Station, Mararaba.

A youth corps member,Miss Idowu serving in Kwara state was founded dead on Sunday night in Ilorin, the state capital .
The Lagos-based corps member was an indigene of Ogun state and lived at Tanke along University road.
The deceased’s corpse was found on Sunday night around GRA Ilorin.

However, her family has been contacted while her corpse would be released today on the insistence of the family.
The deceased served with the state broadcasting corporation, (Radio Kwara), Ilorin.

An ex-vigilante boss identified as Uche (surname withheld) has allegedly killed his girlfriend over a new born baby at the weekend.

Trouble started when the suspect demanded custody of his baby without paying her mother’s bride price and her parents refused to release the baby.

The suspect, who was a security man at her street in GRA, Onitsha, fell in love with the girl before he was sacked from the duty in December 2014.

When the parents of the girl asked him to pay the bride price to formalize the marriage, he allegedly brought out a gun and shot the girl in the chest.

FG Declares Friday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has announced that Friday, May 29, will be observed as a Public Holiday to celebrate the 2015 Democracy Day.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government in a statement signed yesterday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Magaji.

In the statement, Moro urged Nigerians at home and Diaspora to support the incoming government of Muhammudu Buhari, and pray for the success of Nigeria’s democratic process.

Moro also congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigerians for the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections.

The President-elect, Buhari was hailed for his electoral victory, as Moro, wished his administration good luck.
President Jonathan will formally hand over power to Buhari, on May 29, which is the country’s democracy day celebration.

Students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, have taken over the premises of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, Nsukka unit, DAILY POST has learnt.

The angry students also barricaded the Enugu Road axis making vehicular movement difficult.

They are protesting many days of power black-out in the institution, which has also made water supply difficult.

Oil Marketers, Nupeng, Pengassan Call Off Strike

The major oil marketers association of Nigeria (MOMAN) has reached an agreement with the federal government to begin lifting of petroleum products across the country “in six hours”.

According to Magnus Abe, chairman of the senate committee on petroleum resources, the resolution was reached after a meeting of MOMAN and the committee with‎ Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy; Joseph Dawha, group managing director of the Nigeria national petroleum corporation (NNPC) and major stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

Also, the Nigeria union of petroleum and natural gas workers (NUPENG) and the petroleum and natural gas senior staff association (PENGASSAN) have suspended their industrial actions.

Gunmen Kidnap Kogi High Court Judge, Kill Orderly

Gunmen on Monday kidnapped a Kogi High Court Judge, Mr Justice Samuel Obayomi, and killed his orderly, Cpl. Usman Musa in an early morning attack.

Obayomi of the Ebogogo High Court in the Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi was kidnapped while on his way to work.

His driver, Mr Ajayi Kolawole, told newsmen in Lokoja that the incident took place in front of the Executive Guest Villa at Okene GRA in the Okene Local Government Area of the state.

Kolawole said that the judge’s orderly, Musa was shot dead on the spot by the kidnappers in an operation that took place between 8:40 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.

Ogun Teenager, Minor Arrested For Kidnapping Nine-month-old Baby

A teenager, Rachael John, and a nine-year-old girl, Joy Atunramu, have been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping their neighbour’s nine-month-old baby.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday by detectives attached to Ilese Police Division, Ijebu Ode.

The baby was said to have been lured away from the mother’s shop at Old Toll gate area of the town by Atunramu, allegedly acting on the instruction of Rachael.

The special operation ordered by Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has this morning successfully rescued 10 persons from the hands of kidnappers in Ekiti state.

A statement by police spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the victims, not yet identified, are being debriefed and receiving medical attention.

Some kidnappers have been arrested and the operation is ongoing.

40 Year Old Man Arrested For Raping 7year Old Neighbors Daugther

A 40-year-old commercial driver, Sesan Tianu, who allegedly defiled the seven-year-old daughter of his neighbour, was arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday.

Tianu, who resides at No. 18b, Adetoke St., Bariga area of Lagos, is standing trial for child rape.

But the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, had said that the accused committed the offence on May 3, around his residence.

Anyanwu said that the accused took advantage of the seven-year-old girl.

A security guard, Abubakar Zibo, who has been in prison custody for 13 years was yesterday discharged and acquitted by a Lagos High Court, which found him not guilty of the murder of his friend, Charles.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Kayode Ogunmekan held that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the allegation of conspiracy and murder levelled against him as required by Section 1 of the Evidence Act, 2011.

Petrol Tanker Loses 33,000 Liters To Explosion


An oil tanker belonging to Hudson Petroleum Ltd at the weekend lost 33,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in an explosion.

The oil truck exploded in front of the firm’s office making it the fifth time such explosion occurred at the same spot with devastating effect.

The previous explosion is reported to have claimed several lives, while nearby kiosks and properties worth thousands of naira were destroyed.. Eye witnesses account claimed that the truck which left the Hudson farm tank was negotiating the bend in front of the firm’s office when eight of the tyres pull off and it somersaulted violently leading to explosion of the oil tanker.

A 35-year-old man, Bello Rabiu, has been arrested and arraigned before a senior magistrate’s court in Katsina over the killing of his new born baby girl.

He was said to have strangled the one day old baby and buried her in his compound after she was given birth to by his wife, Fatima Bello.
Rabiu was infuriated that the baby he eagerly awaited turned out to be a female, against his wish.

A man who trekked all the way from Taraba state to Maiduguri for 11 days to celebrate the election victory of Governor Kashim Shettima of APC , pictured being turbaned as the 'Trekking king' by the Emir of Gwoza. Aside from the "title", he also reportedly received a cash reward of about N250,000 (N.25 million) from the Deputy governor of Borno state, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha.

An Eyptian court today sentenced former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi to death over a mass prison break in 2011, weeks after he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his time in power. Morsi was removed as president y the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule. Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters.

My husband raped me and I had to lose a two-month old pregnancy in the process. I want the dissolution of my two-year-old marriage,” a-38-year-old wife of a pastor had told a Lagos Island Customary Court .
The petitioner, Mary Iyayi, a make-up artist, who lives at 49, Oke-Olu St., Iponri, a suburb of Lagos, confessed this development to the court.
She alleged thus, “My pastor-husband held my hands to the wall, so I could not move. I told him that I was pregnant but he did not listen, until he forcefully made love to me.
“After it, I started bleeding and I lost the pregnancy. He told me later that he had just helped me to flush out the pregnancy.’’

North Korea has publicly executed the country’s defense minister after the regime accused him of treason, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Hyon Yong Chol was killed by firing squad using an anti-aircraft gun at a military school in front of hundreds of people in Pyongyang around April 30, the agency reported, citing a media briefing by the National Intelligence Service at its headquarters in Seoul.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Liberia free of the Ebola virus, as the country has had no new cases in 42 days. Last September, Liberia was seeing 400 cases a week, with hospitals full and bodies lying in the streets. A public health campaign was launched to stem the epidemic, and the last confirmed death was on 27 March. The Ebola outbreak has claimed over 11,000 lives in the region, and remains active in Guinea and Sierra Leone.
But new cases have been falling and the UN's Ebola envoy, David Nabarro, called progress against the disease in West Africa "extraordinary".

OSOGBO—A lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Dr. Femi Omisore, was kidnapped by unidentified persons at the weekend.

It was gathered that the lecturer was kidnapped at Ado-Ekiti, while on his way to Oye-Ekiti.

The lecturer, it was learned, works at the Department of Environmental Design Ma-nagement of the institution.
According to a source, the kidnappers also killed Omisore’s driver and burnt his vehicle to ashes.

The event is the annual “Day out with God of Daddy G.O.”, which is taking place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja at 5pm on Sunday and to be attended by other top-ranking Nigerian political, business and religious leaders.

The event, according to the organisers, is meant to provide an avenue for Adeboye to pray for outgoing President Jonathan and the President-elect, Buhari, and his new administration, which is coming at a time of great socio-economic challenges that require the prayers and support of all Nigerians to succeed.

35-yr-old Teacher Arrested For Raping 12-yr-old Student

A 35-year-old secondary school teacher in Jigawa State, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in the state for allegedly raping a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School, JSS1, student.

According to the state Commandant of the corps, Muhammad Gidado, the suspect who is a classroom teacher in a Junior Secondary School is the state, allegedly raped the girl on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in one of school toilets and was caught in the act by another teacher who reported the case to the school authority.

First it was one Mister Suleiman Hashimu who claimed to have trekked from Lagos to Abuja to congratulate the President-elect, General Muhamadu Buhari.

Mr Salisu said his mission is to register his protest against alleged electoral fraud in the just concluded governorship election in Taraba State.

University of Ibadan students protest over death of fellow student

Students of the University of Ibadan (last night) and this morning are protesting the death of a fellow student. According to reports from multiple students who reached out to LIB, Mayowa Alaran, a 200l student of Human Kinetics (pictured above) was watching the Barca match in his hall yesterday when he suddenly slumped. He was rushed to the school's clinic, Jaja Clinic, where students claim they were told by nurses that they won't attend to the sick student unless they presented his clinic card. The nurses also allegedly asked for money. Mayowa later passed away in the clinic.

Students are now protesting his death, blaming it on the negligence and lackadaisical attitude of the health centre workers. The students want the school authority to take action. They say it's not the first time a student has died due to the attitude of the nurses at their health centre. Rest in peace, Mayowa.

There was chaos at Iguodala Primary School in the Uhunduhun Oredo LGA of Edo State after a freshly dug grave with blood sprinkled on it was found in one of the classrooms on Monday May 4th. According toPunch, the Head teacher of the school, Mrs Georginia Ilongwo said the students and their teacher returned to their classroom after the morning assembly when they found the grave and immediately raised an alarm.

8 more Nigerians are reportedly waiting to be executed in Indonesia. This is according to the United Nigerians in Diaspora, a group of Nigerians living outside the country.

The group at a press conference in Lagos yesterday May 5th, gave the names of Nigerians waiting to be executed as Michael Titus Igwe, Kingsley Okonkwo, Uchenna Onyewuru, Eugene Ape, Hunphery Ejike, Obinna Nwajiagu, Benjamin Onuoha and Ikenna Abanukwu.

A former military governor of Akwa Ibom State, Commodore Idongesit Nkanga has declared that the incoming government to be led Gen. Muhammadu Buhari would make no difference.

He averred that Nigerians should not expect any miracle from an APC-led government, saying that it would only turn Nigeria into the fabled El Dorado.

Commodore Nkanga while speaking with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital stated that Nigeria would soon realise that voting APC into power might not have been the best decision.

According to a survey by an American “travel dating” website, Nigerian men are the world’s 8th sexiest nationality.

MissTravel.com claims to have polled 110,000 single Americans to find the “The World’s Sexiest Nationalities”, and while Irish men took almost 8,000 votes from the 66,000 American women who participated in the survey, Nigerian men came 8th. See the figures below:

FG downgrades Asaba airport, declares it unsafe for travelers

The Federal government has downgraded and declared Asaba Airport in Delta state unsafe for travelers. In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Aviation today May 5th, the Aviation ministry stated that the airport facility was downgraded and declared unsafe due to the failure of the Delta State government to fix key infrastructure such as undulating runways as well as provision of perimeter fence at the airport as directed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
 “The Federal Government has downgraded the Asaba Airport over the failure of the Delta State government to put in place measures that would guarantee the safety and security of passengers using the airport.” the statement in part reads

A 15 year old girl who is among the over 700 girls and women that have been freed by Nigerian troops from Sambisa Forest in recent times, has reunited with her family in one of the IDPs. According to her brother, the girl was kidnapped 6 months ago and they had thought she was dead.
