Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa on Saturday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the ongoing strike in the interest of the students.
Mr. Lamido made the appeal when he received a delegation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Dutse.
He said it was unfortunate that the industrial action was now almost three months since it began.
The governor blamed the protracted strike on lack of trust between the Federal Government and ASUU.
“It is really unfortunate that the strike has lasted up until this time. There is no trust between the two bodies and when there is no trust it will be difficult to have a common ground.
“As a parent, I am so worried seeing our children that supposed to be in school at home.
“I am appealing to ASUU to go back to the classroom while the negotiation with the government continues,” he said.
Mr. Lamido, however, pleaded with the Federal Government to continue to dialogue with the union, even after the strike had been called off.
He said this would enable the two parties to sort out the gray areas in the dispute, adding that ASUU and the Federal Government should approach the dialogue with sincerity.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Ahmed Jibril, appealed to Lamido to intervene to end the lingering industrial action.
Mr. Jibril, who is the Vice President National Affairs, NANS, said that it was unfortunate for students to be allowed to stay at home for more than three months as a result of the strike.
He said parents and students are left to bear the consequences of the strike.
He told Mr. Lamido that they were in the state on tour of education facilities.

Wife Agrees to take Cheating Husband Back If He gets 10,000 Likes On Facebook (PHOTOS)
I just decided that, ok, it didn’t work. Next, I had to move on. There is no need holding on to the past – no need holding on to something if it’s not working any more. There is no need flogging a dead horse since it is already lifeless. And when you decide to bury the horse, would you not leave the grave site afterwards? You would go now.
Anything that happens to you now, that sun would still set, another day would come. So, it’s your choice to either be part of the living or be in the grave yard.
And I choose to be alive, enjoy my life and smile at everything that is
happening – good or bad. As long as God is with you, things would always
be fine with you.
I’m not thinking about anything. At the moment, I’m facing my career. If it comes, fine. If it doesn’t come, that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world because I’m convinced that God loves me. Love has given me more than enough. I have the most gorgeous daughter in the whole world. That’s enough for me.
When Sonya Gore’s estranged, adulterous husband proposed to her on Facebook, she set him a challenge that doubled as punishment.
She forced Ivan Lewis to post a photo of himself on the social media site holding a hand-written note that read, ‘I cheated on my wife!!! (and she was ugly!!!)’.
But proving that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, the 40-year-old said she would only marry Lewis if his embarrassing September 22 post attracted 10,000 likes. The post already has more than 6,500 likes, although Gore reckons she is ‘not making the decision [to reconcile] solely on that.’

Top 5 Bankable Nigerian Actresses
Four elements contribute to the success of a movie at the box-office. They include good script, experienced director, professional publicist, and most importantly, the big name stars.
In Nigeria, some movie stars have proven again and again that they can guarantee return on investment as long as their faces adorn the poster. They are Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele and Nse Ikpe-Etim. Or how else could one explain the success of box office hits like Mirror Boy, Ije, and Tango With Me all having Genevieve Nnaji starring in them? And what about Figurine and Anchor Baby which both starred Omoni Oboli as the lead actress?
Here, We take a look at Nollywood’s five bankable actresses, their earnings and what is possibly working for them.
1. Genevieve Nnaji
Topping the list of five is Genevieve Nnaji. Love or hate her, Genny as she is fondly called, has a way with cinema audiences that make them come back again and again for her movies.
So far, Genevieve’s starring in the movies has grossed over N83 million at the box office. Mirror Boy (described by the actress as her first major film and the first to put her at the box-office) made N18 million, while Ije netted N60 million turning out to be Nigeria’s highest grossing movie ever. But Genevieve had to share the money with Omotola, who also acted alongside her. If the sharing formula is 50-50, then Genevieve gets N30 million of the total gross.
Genevieve’s next movie, Tango with Me went on to make N35 million. So, putting all the figures together, Genny remains at the head of the pack. What seem to be working for Genevieve are her enduring power, popularity and social media connection. The actress has been there for over a decade and is still waxing stronger. Her wine seems to taste better with age.
Another plus for Genny is her popularity. Genevieve is hugely popular across Africa and most especially among the youths. Before now, she has been very active on the social media especially Twitter. She even had to put up a Facebook advert after reports emerged that some acts were ahead of her there.

The
lecturers also vowed to continue their strike unless the federal
government honours the 2009 agreement it had with the union.

How To Make A First Class Or Distinction In School
Every serious student that gains admission into tertiary institutions
has the aim of graduating with a first class/distinction degree but the
reality shows that the number of first class students in Nigeria’s
tertiary institutions is on the decline. Nigeria Education Portal ®
gives steps which if diligently followed will enable every student who
aspires to make a first class in school to do so with ease.
1) Get serious from the first day
It is common for students to get carried away with the euphoria of gaining admission into higher institution that they forget the major reason why they are in school. It is essential to start building your grade point from the first day so as to avoid playing catch up afterwards.
2) Attend Lectures
While attending lectures may not be so important in your first year in school as most courses are what you must have already learnt previously in your secondary school and the large number of students in lecture rooms in your first year may not make attending lectures enticing however after your first year, attending lectures must be a priority, this is enable you mark attendance in class which may be the difference between an A or a B, pick salient points which the lecturer may mention in class and to pick instructions and tips which lecturers usually give in class.
3) Understand your Lecturer(s)
As all human beings differ in various characteristics so do your lecturers differ in the way they want things to be done. While some may prefer you to understand their notes only, others may prefer you to research more on your own after giving you notes, others may depend solely on past questions and so on. It is very essential to understand each lecturer who comes to lecture you. This might be done by seeking advice from students who have taken courses taught by the lecturer.
4) Don’t build serious relationships with the opposite sex
It is very essential to keep only platonic relationships with the opposite sex while in school. This might be very difficult especially if you are a pretty lady or a handsome guy but the truth is if you keep any serious relationships, it will eat out of your valuable time you would have spent studying.
5) Learn to study
This usually is the most difficult part of a student’s life as different distractions exist in the higher institution but unfortunately this is the most important step on your way to making a first class in school. While most students are fond of deceiving themselves by either sleeping and waking in the library without actually studying, it is very essential to give at least 2 quality hours studying every day.
6) Rub mind with others
No man is an island, no matter how hard you study you can never know it all, there will still be some few things which you still would not know but someone else’s could help you with and save you a lot of time trying to decipher how to go about the problem.
7) Put God first
Always remember that God is the owner of all knowledge and gives only to those who he wishes to. Learn to always put God first before every lecture, test or exam. He is the only one who can see you through.

Man Finds A Crocodile Hidden Under His Bed
It sounds like the stuff of nightmares - but Guy Whittall will certainly
be checking for 'monsters' underneath his bed, after waking up to find
an eight foot crocodile hiding just inches from where he slept.
The 330lbs giant had sneaked into the Humani lodge, Zimbabwe and spent the entire night lying quietly, just fractions beneath an oblivious Mr Whittall.

The following morning Mr Whittall - a former Zimbabwean cricketer - had even perched on the edge of his bed, with his feet dangling over the edge, just inches from the crocodile's face, as he organised his day

Barcelona Vs Ajax: UCL Today At 7:45pm
It is hard to believe that when FC Barcelona host AFC Ajax in Wednesday's UEFA Champion League Group H curtain-raiser, it will be the first meeting between two clubs with a rich history in European competition.
They have plenty of shared connections though, especially in the legendary figure of Johan Cruyff, who swapped Ajax for Barcelona in 1973 after claiming three straight European Champion Clubs' Cups during nine trophy-laden years in Amsterdam. He soon became the darling of the Camp Nou, hitting 48 goals in 143 games and helping the Blaugrana clinch their first Spanish title in 14 years in 1974.
Chelsea Vs FC Basel Today At 7:45pm
Chelsea begin a new Champions League adventure under Jose Mourinho on
Wednesday when they welcome Swiss champions Basel to Stamford Bridge in
Group E.
The Blues, who have lost their last two matches in all competitions, struggled in the tournament last year as they failed to get past the
group stage.
However, there was eventual joy for the London club as they went on to win the Europa League after knocking out Basel in the semi-finals.
Basel enjoyed relative success in the Champions League two years ago by reaching the quarter-finals before they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
Oscar, Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres could all return for Chelsea following Saturday's 1-0 loss at Everton in the Premier League.

Members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum have called on the Minister of
Finance, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, to resign her appointment if she knew she would not be
able to adhere strictly with the Appropriation Act 2013.
They said the non-compliance with the revenue projections of the Federal Government 2013 Budget was also a direct breach of the provisions of the Appropriation Act, 2013.
These decisions were part of the resolutions of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led NGF, which met in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
States which were represented by their governors at the meeting were those of Rivers, Niger, Kwara, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Adamawa, Oyo, Lagos, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano and Zamfara while deputy governors of Edo, Borno and Nasarawa states represented their governors.

Things Every Recent Graduate Should Know
A lot of people graduate with great hopes about post-graduation life.
While these hopes can, and hopefully will, be met – they need to realise
that times have changed, and success is no longer as ‘easy’ to achieve
as it was many years ago. For this reason, graduates should arm
themselves with the following observations – things I was forced to
learn based on experience - to prevent disappointment:
1. Getting a degree is a great achievement, but it is only the starting point. Professional qualifications, skills-enhancement training and certifications have made the labour market more competitive. The wise graduates will immediately find ways to enhance their profiles.

Arik Makes Emergency Landing As Woman Delivers On-board
An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne.
The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.
When the passenger went into labour, the cabin crew asked that doctors on board the flight to identify themselves. Following the announcement, two of the passengers came forward, saying they were doctors and assisted in the delivery of the baby.
