A 34-year-old pregnant woman identified as Ikhuenbor Joy has been
arraigned before an Egor Magistrate Court for beating another pregnant
woman, Gift Nkechi, to coma.
The beating occurred at No 3 Ikhuenbor lane off Odion Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor local government.
Joy, who is about eight-month pregnant, was accused of biting Nkechi and beating her with her fists.
LEADERSHIP gathered that a caesarian session was performed on Nkechi to remove her baby.
Joy was arraigned on two-count charge of assault and causing bodily harm.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The offenses are punishable under sections 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol.
II Laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State.
Presiding Magistrate, William Aziegbemhin, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety who must be a house
owner and live within the court jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to September 29,
