Tottenham edged Manchester United 2-1 in a breathless encounter at Old Trafford as the hosts’ hopes of retaining their Premier League title suffered a potentially fatal blow.
Emmanuel Adebayor planted a header beyond David De Gea to give Spurs the lead before Roberto Soldado missed a glaring opportunity to add a second when he blazed wide from close range.

But it took until just after the hour mark for the game to explode into life. First, the visitors doubled their advantage when Eriksen stooped to head home Lennon’s deflected effort but United hit back instantly when Welbeck clipped home inside the area.
United poured forward in search of an equaliser but a string of fine saves from Hugo Lloris and heroic blocks saw Tottenham hold on for back to back victories at Old Trafford and continue their revival under Tim Sherwood.
